Foundation for Pleasant Hill Education Grant Program

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've surely heard about the drastic cuts made to California's schools over the last couple years as the state tries to Band-Aid its hemorrhaging budget.

Locally, in the Mount Diablo Unified School District, where my four-year-old daughter will have the pleasure of attending next fall, the bean counters went so far as to completely eliminate the athletics program.

Yes, you read that correctly. The largest school district in one of the most affluent counties in not only California but the entire nation has ZERO funding for school athletics. But this is just the tip of the iceberg: budget cuts have been severe in just about every department and program in the district. And the writing on the wall for next year is that things are only going to get worse.

Here in Pleasant Hill, we are blessed to have the newly formed Foundation for Pleasant Hill Education, whose 2010 campaign goal is to raise $55,000 for Pleasant Hill's 11 sorely underfunded schools.

That's a mere $55 each from a mere 1,000 of Pleasant Hill's 33,000-plus residents. You can find out more about the foundation and make your donation at www.fphe.org.

As part of our commitment to Pleasant Hill's schools, Hitchcock Realty will now donate $750 to the FPHE whenever you or a referred friend or family member buys or sells a home with Hitchcock Realty in 2010.

Here are the details:

• To be eligible, the buyer or seller must notify Hitchcock Realty that they would like to participate in the $750 FPHE grant program before the listing agreement (sellers) or purchase agreement (buyers) is prepared and signed. An additional clause will be added to the contract to confirm each party's participation in the grant program.

• Referred friends or family members are also eligible. The referring or referred party must notify Hitchcock Realty of their desire to participate in the grant program as described above.

• Both new and existing clients of Hitchcock Realty are eligible.

• Only properties residing in Hitchcock Realty's normal service area are eligible for participation. The property and/or principal does not need to reside in the City of Pleasant Hill to be eligible.

• A donation of $750 will be made to the FPHE by Hitchcock Realty at the close of escrow for each eligible transaction.

• No donation to the FPHE by the participating buyer or seller is required.

• Hitchcock Realty reserves the right to decline participation in this grant program for a particular property or principal at any time and at its sole discretion. Principals will be informed of this refusal prior to ratification of any contracts.

• Not all sales agents at Hitchcock Realty are participating in this program. Please contact us for participating agent details.
